ABOUT THE SOUTHMOOR PARK EAST COMMUNITY
Southmoor Park East is a neighborhood of 624 homes located just southeast of the intersection Hampden Avenue and Monaco Parkway in Denver, Colorado. The first homes in the neighborhood were built in 1965. Restaurants, grocery stores, theaters and other businesses are located adjacent to the neighborhood. Many neighbors belong to the Eastmoor Swim & Tennis Club, which is located within the neighborhood. Southmoor Park East contains two city parks, Southmoor Park and Eastmoor Park.
The Southmoor Park East Homeowners Association (SPEHA) sponsors a number of activities each year including a neighborhood picnic, neighborhood garage sale, a concert by the Denver Municipal Band, and other special events.
Every January, SPEHA holds its annual meeting, during which the Board of Directors is elected for the upcoming year. The Board currently meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at various meeting areas locally. Please check the SPEHA Calendar for the location and agenda. All neighbors are welcome to attend the Board meetings but should call a Board member first to confirm the meeting is still scheduled (occasionally, the meeting location, date, or time is changed because of the unavailability of Board members, etc.).
Board members are volunteers, and a large part of the Board’s responsibility is to enforce neighborhood covenants. These covenants apply to every property in the neighborhood and regulate the storage of vehicles and other equipment, changes in the structure of a house or fence, roofing materials, storage sheds, plantings, and many other aspects of the property. Neighbors considering making changes on their property should review their covenants and, if necessary, contact the Board well in advance of making a change. This will avoid the expense of having to remove non-conforming improvements. Likewise, people considering moving into Southmoor Park East should inspect the covenants before they sign a contract.
Each home in the neighborhood is assessed dues of $25 per year, which finances the social events and covenant enforcement activities of the Association.
